Claude Monet- Cliff walk

Claude Monet- Cliff walk

Title: Cliff walk at Pourville
Artist: Claude Monet
Year: 1882
Style: Impressionism

This is a painting from Claude Monet, who is an impressionistic artist. His style of painting is impressionism art. He was a famous figure of impressionism movement. Cliff walk is one of his well-known works, which I like it the best.

In the painting, every stroke is so soft and gentle. they comprise a blur effect of the whole outcome. It gives people a kind of feeling that can not describe the picture exactly. What subjects we can assume from the painting are two female shadows standing on the cliff edge. The background is composed by the blue sky with few crowd of clouds and roaring waves, there are few boats floating in the sea as well.

It does not have any real lines. But the composition of the painting is horizontal, It creates a peaceful mood strongly with its impressionism style painting technique.

It also emphasizes the feature of impressionism painting, an oil painting resembles to a photograph but not a real photo.

The last photo of a chiaroscuro apple

IMG_1297IMG_1299IMG_1298I took this apple in chiaroscuro technique during I learnt about painting styles in Renaissance period. As we can see from the photo, the apple is the major subject in the whole shoot. Because of the light beam only illuminated on a side of the apple, we could not see the shape of a whole apple. Also, there is no difference in background and foreground while an apple was taken in such a dark environment. What we can see in the background is only a dark and full of mysterious area, in this case, apple is strongly contrasted in the photo, it lets viewer pay attention to apple immediataly when they look at photo.

This is chiaroscuro technique. In Renaissance period, the contrasts technique between light and dark is one way to depict subjects in paintings. It emphasizes the subject efficiently. Chiaroscuro technique is still popular even in modern art, most of style painting adopts this technique to create masterpieces.

Title: Jasper Johns Flags

Artist:Jasper Johns

Year:1954–55

Style: Pop art

This is a symbol image of Pop art created by Jasper Johns. He painted it after he finished army service from US Army, and dreamed of an american flag had inspired him. It is a art work that represented as a  American Flag in oil painting form. He used a classic technique which is encaustic to process the oil painting. Pop art usually expresses popular subjects such as Coke Cola cans, lips and cartoon portraits in a comic and traditional sign ways. It is kind of optical shock.

This is the encaustic painting tutorial.

Bouquet Of Eyes, 1930, Hannah Hoch

A bunch of eyes

Title: Bouquet Of Eyes
Artist: Hannah Höch
Year:1930
Style: Collage

This is a collage image from Hannah Höch, which is a Dadaist from Gotha, Germany. This collage was collected in Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nürnberg.
The movement
Dada was an art movement in early 20th century formed by the avant-garde European. Dada was born out of and against the horrors of World War I. It is a rejection of reason and logic, presenting arts in a liberal and intuitive technique. Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray and Guillaume Apollinaire are the most famous Dadaists.
Visual analysis
In this collage, we can see lots of eyes growing on a bunch of flowers; the bunch of flowers is the main subject of the whole collage. The background is orange which is a warm colour giving a kind of relaxing mood, however, the eyes keep staring at the viewer destroying any sense of ease. The eyes in the bunch are focused in various directions, so the viewer can not avoid an eye contact with them when looking at picture. This picture also encourages the viewer to correlate each pair of eye. Object and subject in this picture are difficult to differentiate; some of eye only have eye ball, some are shown the outline of the eye; which engages dealing fairly with sexism- equal through the eye.

Fall

Fall

This is a picture taken by Jimmy. The main subject is the branch of leves, but focal point is on the background which is the sky and further landscape.

Even though the leaves are blurry, texture of the leaves are distinctive, because it is under the light of sunshine. meanwhile, the yellow color of the leave contrasts to the green color of the trees strongly. The foreground subject which is the decaied leaves creates an autumn mood. In contrast, the ever green tree shows the positive energy such as in spring and summer. The combination of subjects expresses an energetic atmosphere in winter.
